The Sierra Pacific Foundation has awarded a grant to the Argentine Rock Lookout repair effort in Quincy, reports the Argentine Rock Lookout Repair Group, helping pave the way for the group to do more repairs on the lookout this season. Jeff Greef, chairman of the Argentine Group, received the award recently, and said, “This contribution by Sierra Pacific Industries will help us get the materials we need to keep our volunteers working on the lookout this summer, for which we are very grateful.”
The Sierra Pacific Foundation assists with projects that benefit the local community, such as scholarships, youth programs and other projects related to the forest products industry.
The Argentine Rock Lookout Repair Group has been working on repairing the old lookout for several years now. The lookout is situated on Grizzly Ridge overlooking American Valley and Quincy. When completed, the lookout will be used as a recreation rental, administered by the Plumas National Forest, for everyone to use.

Matt Taborski, division manager at SPI’s Quincy mill, presented the award to Greef just as the repair effort is gearing up for another season of repair parties at 7,200 feet elevation at Argentine.
“We’re looking for volunteers to come up for one or two Saturdays to do some carpentry, or painting, or carrying materials to the lookout,” said Greef.
Potential volunteers can contact Greef at [email protected], or come to the next planning meeting: Thursday, May 22, 6 p.m. at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds Mineral Building.
