Chalk art event brings color, community to Quincy

Organizers plan to bring event back annually

The Feather River College Child Development Center reports it hosted a vibrant and joyful chalk art event earlier this month that brought the community together for a day filled with creativity, connection and color. Organizers said the turnout was fantastic, with families, friends and local businesses joining in the fun. The weather cooperated perfectly, with the first raindrops falling just as the event wrapped up.

The event featured festive additions from Quincy circus group, Quircus, which offered face painting, cotton candy and popcorn. Local businesses sponsored chalk squares, which were decorated by Quincy Junior-Senior High School art students, led by art teacher Danielle Frid. “Their work highlighted the strong and creative partnership between local schools and the wider community,” said organizers.

Two standout creations were honored by community judges Amy Carey and Dave Wraa:

  • Ali Hunt and her 4-H group received the Most Creative Award.
  • Ericka Thompson, Justin Franco and their family earned the Best Collaboration Award.

The event was made possible through funding from the FRC Foundation’s mini grant program and was organized by the staff at the FRC Child Development Center.

Organizers said that due to the event’s success and the overwhelmingly positive feedback they received, the Child Development Center has announced plans to make the chalk art event an annual tradition.

“We were really pleased with the turnout and the positive energy throughout the day,” said Casey Nunn, CDC director. “It was a great opportunity for families and community members to connect and celebrate creativity together.”
