Music festival expands local work exchange program

Quincy locals can join the High Sierra team, earn festival access, connect through Facebook group

As the High Sierra Music Festival gears up for its 33rd annual celebration July 3–6 local Quincy residents have a unique opportunity to get involved through the festival’s work exchange program, announce organizers. In exchange for four-hour shifts, locals can earn access to the festival or trade items like couches, trailers or gear by joining a new Facebook group dedicated to this initiative.

The group, called High Sierra Music Festival Locals Only, was started by Marcie Wilde, general manager of the Feather River Food Co-op, and serves as a hub for community members to connect with the festival’s production team, find opportunities to volunteer and explore creative ways to participate.

“We’ve always believed that the strength of High Sierra lies in the community that surrounds it,” said Dave Margulies, producer of High Sierra Music Festival. “This work exchange program is a chance for Quincy locals to be part of something special, contribute their time or resources, and enjoy the festival in a more meaningful and affordable way.”

The Facebook group has fewer than 100 members currently, so many locals may not yet know about it or the full extent of the exchange opportunities, say organizers.

“It’s not just about earning a ticket; it’s about being part of the High Sierra team,” said Margulies. “Whether you’re volunteering at the gate, helping with shuttling staff from the off-site parking lot to the fairgrounds, or loaning out a couch or trailer, you’re part of what makes this event work. It’s a really fun and rewarding way to experience the festival.”

Margulies emphasized that this program is intended to bring more local involvement into the event. “We’re incredibly grateful for our home in Quincy, and we want local residents to feel like this is their festival too,” he said. “And there’s plenty to be done ahead of time so locals can earn their festival ticket by working required hours before the festival begins so they can enjoy the festival even more.”

Locals interested in joining the program can find out more and connect directly with coordinators and other residents by joining the Facebook group and completing this form.
