With heavy hearts, Seneca Healthcare District staff announce the passing of Dr. David Walls, a beloved physician and community leader who dedicated more than 45 years to serving the people of Chester and the surrounding region. Walls retired in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, excellence and unwavering dedication to patient care, said SHD.
For generations, Walls was more than a health care provider — he was a trusted friend, a mentor and a cornerstone of the community, said SHD: “His commitment to healing and his deep empathy touched the lives of thousands of patients and families.” From delivering babies to treating emergencies, Walls was there for the community through every stage of life.
“Dr. Walls was the heart of Seneca Healthcare District,” said Kacie Broussard, care coordination manager at Seneca. “His leadership helped shape the quality of care we provide today, and his influence will be felt for decades to come.”
Throughout his distinguished career, Walls played a vital role in the growth of the health care district, mentoring young professionals and championing improvements in rural health care. SHD said his dedication extended beyond the hospital walls — he was a familiar face at community events, a calming presence in times of crisis and a tireless advocate for the well-being of all.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date. SHD reports that family friend Ed Bishop will assist with arrangements. Community members who wish to send condolences may drop off cards at the Seneca Healthcare Foundation office located at 317 Main St. in Chester. These will be delivered to Walls’ daughter.
To honor Walls’ enduring legacy, the Seneca Healthcare Foundation board has established a memorial fund. The North Healing Garden at the new Lake Almanor Community Hospital — a peaceful space for reflection, healing and remembrance — will be dedicated in Walls’ name. Community members are invited to contribute to this fund to help bring the garden to life and celebrate the spirit of a man who gave so much to others. Donations can be accepted online by selecting the Healing Garden option, or by donating in memory of Dr. David Walls.
SHD invites community members and former patients to share their memories of Walls. Stories, photos and reflections can be emailed to [email protected] or dropped off at the administration office. “These tributes will help preserve his legacy and remind us all of the profound impact one person can have,” said SHD. “Dr. David Walls will forever remain in the heart of this community. His life’s work was a gift to us all, and his memory will continue to inspire compassion, service and excellence in health care.”
