The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office announces that the human remains discovered May 9 in a remote area northeast of Cromberg near Jackson Creek have been positively identified as William Millard, a Plumas County resident reported missing in 2017.
Millard’s next of kin has been notified. “The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to his family,” say staff. “While this is a tragic development, we hope the identification provides a sense of closure after many years of uncertainty.”
No foul play is suspected.
Following the original missing person report in 2017, Millard’s vehicle was located in the Jackson Creek area. The vehicle appeared to have broken down, and it is believed he attempted to leave the area on foot. His remains were located approximately half a mile from the vehicle.
Millard was known to have preexisting health conditions. Due to the condition of the remains, an official cause of death could not be determined.
PCSO thanks the logging crew that promptly reported the discovery, as well as the Plumas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team for assistance in recovering additional remains.
