Feather River Land Trust invites the community to celebrate the summer solstice and the lightest day of the year with Clare Churchill of Clarity Yoga. A two-part yoga workshop will be held Saturday, June 21, at the Sierra Valley Preserve Nature Center. An optional sunrise meditation is set for 5:30 to 6:30 a.m., followed by yoga from 7 to 9 a.m. Tickets cost $40 per person.
Organizers say this workshop is designed to let participants witness the sunrise on the first day of summer with quiet contemplation and meditation. A solstice-inspired yin and yang asana practice will follow.
Part 1 schedule:
- 5:15 a.m.: Attendees arrive and settle.
- 5:30 – 6:15 a.m.: For sunrise stillness, attendees can choose their preferred place to be, whether on the patio, taking a walking meditation along the paths or seated under the trees; this includes time for journaling.
- 6:15 – 6:45 a.m.: Warm refreshments will be available as class is set up.
Part 2 schedule:
- 7 – 8:30 a.m.: Yoga asana practice includes a combination of yin- and yang-style yoga, followed by a short solstice ritual. Practice may be on the patio or inside the community room, or a combination of both.
- 8:30 – 9 a.m.: Closing and community activities available.
Participants should bring:
- Warm or layered clothing
- Hats, sunglasses and sunscreen
- Insect repellent
- Yoga mats and props
- Something to write on and with
Some yoga experience is recommended but not required for this workshop. Space is limited and registration is available online.
Clare Churchill has been a yoga practitioner for nearly 25 years, and a teacher for the past 20. Organizers say her Hatha teaching style blends the elements of asana, pranayama and meditation into an experience that provides students with the full benefits of a yoga practice.
