Artists, author set to greet guests during First Friday

Art openings set for four Plumas galleries June 6

This month’s First Friday festivities invite the community to spend an evening appreciating local art while enjoying food, wine and conversations with the artists. Galleries in Quincy and Lake Almanor are open late Friday, June 6, with special events and featured exhibit openings.

In Lake Almanor, the Blue Goose Gallery of Artists highlights a Back to Nature show. In Quincy, three galleries are participating: Main Street Artists Gallery announces a group show, Plumas Arts Gallery presents work by Victoria Vajgert-Guthrey, and The Quincy Hub features local author and artist Dora Mitchell. Additional downtown businesses will be open as well.

Blue Goose Gallery of Artists

Blue Goose Gallery of Artists invites the community to its First Friday party with a Back to Nature theme, running from 3 to 7 p.m. Artwork includes sculpture, basketry, photography, woodwork, textiles, jewelry, painting and more, all with a nature focus. The event features a scavenger hunt, unveiling of new artwork, prizes and refreshments.

The gallery is located at 289 Clifford Drive near the Lake Almanor Peninsula. More information is available at 530-258-2600 or [email protected]. In June, the gallery is open Thursday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Main Street Artists Gallery

The Main Street Artists Gallery in Quincy presents a group show featuring the works of all gallery members. The opening reception June 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. includes wine and appetizers. The show will run through the month of June.

The gallery is located at 436 Main St. More information is available at 530-283-1900. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Plumas Arts Gallery

The Plumas Arts Gallery offers a first look at a new body of work from local Quincy artist Victoria Vajgert-Guthrey from 5 to 7 p.m. Plumas Arts calls Vajgert-Guthrey’s work “vivid” and “emotionally resonant,” exploring the “intersection of creativity, surrender and spiritual connection.”

Vajgert-Guthrey cited a life-changing message: “There are no mistakes.” She described her creative process as starting with an intuitive pull and then including the appearance of doubt. “That is when I return to the Divine,” she said. “I pause. I listen. I surrender. What felt wrong became an invitation to be more bold, to loosen my grip, to step outside the lines and let something truer emerge.”

Art shows us how beauty often asks us to pass through doubt before it fully reveals itself, said Vajgert-Guthrey. She describes her work as leaning into intensity and containing “evidence of trust — not in perfection, but in unfolding.” “My hope is that each piece carries the spark of that spiritual conversation and invites you to pause and feel.”

The gallery is located at 525 Main St. Hours are Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information is available via 530-283-3402.

The Quincy Hub

The Quincy Hub, sharing space with the Indian Valley Innovation Hub’s Made In Plumas County program, welcomes artist and author Dora Mitchell from 5 to 7 p.m. Mitchell is the space’s featured artist for June. She will be offering a reading and book signing for her new book, “The Puzzling Fate of Millicent Graves.”

Mitchell offered a special invitation to young readers and budding writers and artists — she promises lots of fun behind-the-scenes peeks at how comics and graphic novels are made.

Mitchell’s other artwork and books will be on display as well, along with creations by other local artists. Refreshments for both kids and adults will be provided.

The Quincy Hub is located at 493 Main St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.
