On May 21, reports Plumas Charter School, junior high and high school students from PCS’ Quincy, Chester and Greenville sites came together at the Indian Valley Academy campus for a field trip designed for fun and connection. What unfolded was a day of games, a shared meal and a powerful message of motivation that reminded students they’re part of something bigger: a thriving, united and supportive school community, said organizers.
Gary McFarland helped coordinate the event, which was funded by Plumas Rural Services. PCS said the organization’s support made it possible to bring in speakers from Victory 4 Youth, a California-based nonprofit that works to empower and inspire young people. Known for their energetic and heartfelt presentations, Victory 4 Youth members delivered a message for the audience focused on hope, courage and purpose, said organizers, offering students a chance to reflect on their own strengths and the value of supporting one another.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, representatives from Plumas Rural Services, Plumas County Behavioral Health and Plumas County Probation were also on hand to support the day’s mission. They distributed wellness bags to students and were available throughout the event to connect with youth and promote resources for emotional well-being.
The day began early, with students departing their home campuses to make the drive to Greenville. Upon arrival, they were greeted with two hours of games and team-building activities designed to encourage collaboration and create new friendships across sites. Lunch was prepared and served by IVA’s culinary class, giving students the chance to support their peers’ hands-on learning.
After lunch, students gathered for a session with the keynote presenters. Victory 4 Youth speakers are known for connecting with teens through attention-grabbing “feats of strength,” authentic storytelling, encouragement and life-changing messages that help youth face challenges with confidence and resilience, said organizers. Breakout sessions gave students time to reflect, ask questions and build a deeper connection with the message. The event wrapped up with students returning to their home campuses.
