Gold Discovery Day returns to Plumas-Eureka State Park

The Plumas-Eureka State Park Association and California State Parks, in partnership with the Johnsville Historical Society, announce that Saturday, July 19, marks Gold Discovery Day at Plumas-Eureka State Park.

The community is welcome to this free day of history, nature and family fun in celebration of the legacy of the Gold Rush era at the park in Johnsville. All venues are open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

Organizers promise that the region’s cultural and natural history will come to life through engaging activities, live demonstrations and interactive fun for all ages. Highlights include:

  • Horse and wagon rides
  • Wool spinning, woodworking, blacksmithing
  • Tours of the assay office and Moriarty House
  • Historical talks, walks and demonstrations
  • Guided traditional ecological knowledge plant hike with Dana Galloway
  • Art, nature, science and history activities  
  • Book reading of “Graeagle Bear” by Dink Rife
  • Scavenger hunt with prizes
  • Live music, games, gold panning and more

Two meal options are available for purchase: a pancake breakfast presented by the Rotary Club from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and lunch by Sierra Smokeshow from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
