Feather River College’s TRiO Student Support Services program announces that it recently held its annual grant fund scholarship luncheon, catered by Chef Sean Conry of The Perch. This special event recognized and celebrated the achievements of TRiO students with the distribution of $34,000 in scholarship funds.
A total of 21 students received scholarships ranging from $1,250 to $2,300, supporting their continued academic journey.
Staff said the TRiO SSS program is dedicated to increasing the success of first-generation college students, low-income students and students with disabilities through free tutoring, academic advising, assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid forms, financial literacy and transfer workshops, cultural events and more.
“TRiO plays a vital role in helping students stay in college, earn degrees and transfer to four-year institutions,” said Wendy Jacobus, FRC TRiO SSS advisor. “Congratulations to all scholarship recipients!”
Anabella, a nursing scholarship recipient, said, “My most meaningful achievement is going back to school after 35 years. I believe that showing my grandchildren the importance of an education and pursuing your goals no matter how old you may be is key to their future.”
Cody, a kinesiology scholarship recipient, said, “This TRiO grant will help me ensure I can continue to support my financial obligations to be a full-time student and full-time father under my special circumstances.”
Danny, a sociology scholarship recipient, said, “I have two more semesters at FRC then I plan on transferring to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff … continuing with sociology as my major with a focus on psychology.”
Emma, a culinary arts scholarship recipient, said, “I have enjoyed every second with TRiO and Upward Bound … without their help I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
