Auxiliary donates $58,959 to Seneca Healthcare District

The Seneca Healthcare District announces a donation of $58,959 from the Seneca Hospital Auxiliary, a dedicated volunteer organization that has long supported health care services in the Lake Almanor Basin. SHD points out that $4,000 of this total was contributed by Elks Lodge No. 2626 of Chester, reflecting that group’s continued commitment to the well-being of the local community.

“This impactful contribution will directly fund the purchase of essential medical equipment that enhances patient care, improves operational efficiency and supports the well-being of both patients and staff,” said SHD. The donation will be used to acquire:

  • An endoscope for colonoscopy. This additional scope will improve the efficiency of outpatient procedures by allowing faster equipment turnaround, increasing patient volumes, reducing staff demand and generating additional revenue for the district. Colonoscopy screening allows for early detection of polyps and colorectal cancer and is recommended for people of average risk at age 45 and up.
  • Two Welch-Allyn vital sign units. These portable units will be used in SHD’s busy primary care clinics to accurately record blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature and oxygen saturation, improving workflow and patient monitoring.
  • A “geri chair”: Invacare deluxe three-position recliner. This specialized chair provides enhanced comfort, lumbar support and leg elevation for patients during recovery or extended stays.
  • An aluminum tilt shower chair. Replacing an aging unit, this new chair ensures safe and dignified hygiene care for patients with mobility challenges.
  • An EasyOne professional pulmonary function testing machine. This advanced system will allow the district to perform higher-level pulmonary testing in house, reducing the need to refer patients to outside facilities and keeping care local while preserving revenue.

“We are incredibly thankful for the Seneca Hospital Auxiliary’s generosity,” said Judy Cline, SHD chief nursing officer. “Their support helps us provide exceptional care to the communities we serve.”

“The Seneca Hospital Auxiliary continues to be a cornerstone of community support through its fundraising, volunteerism and advocacy,” said SHD. “This donation is a powerful example of how local partnerships can drive meaningful improvements in rural health care.”

Since its founding in 1977, the Seneca Hospital Auxiliary has been committed to supporting the mission of SHD. Through community generosity and volunteer dedication, the group has contributed nearly $1 million to SHD since its inception. This includes:

  • Over $910,000 in medical equipment
  • More than $54,000 to long-term care activities
  • Over $38,000 in scholarships
  • Support for community meals and events

The auxiliary’s largest and most impactful contribution is to the SHD annual wish list, which funds essential new or replacement equipment identified by SHD’s medical staff. This ensures the hospital remains equipped to deliver high-quality care, said SHD.
