The Mohawk Valley Stewardship Council reports that a group of friends said a final farewell at White Sulphur Springs Ranch June 4 to Paul Bianco, who died Oct. 4 last year. It was the anniversary of his birthday in 1946. Bianco’s daughter Kayle Martin hosted a celebration of life that was attended by more than 50 of his friends. Most of the event was held occurred outdoors, on the deck overlooking Mohawk Valley in Clio. The master of ceremonies was Paul Chiavini, a longtime close friend of Bianco’s.
Organizers pointed out that it was appropriate that the festivities were located at White Sulphur Springs Ranch, which is managed by the nonprofit stewardship council. Bianco’s history in Plumas County was well connected to the old ranch site. He was the owner of Graeagle Stables and worked hard to make his customers’ experience something special. Many of his trips included a ride and an overnight stay at White Sulphur Springs Ranch, then a bed and breakfast.

Jeff Engel, Plumas County supervisor for District 5, proclaimed this June 4 and every succeeding June 4 as Paul Bianco Day. Ceremonies included a riderless horse event led by Jeri Nelson and a 21-gun rifle salute by members of American Legion Post 328. A flag-folding ceremony and the playing of taps brought tears to the eyes of Bianco’s friends.
Refreshments were served in the dining room of the restored ranch house. “A moving slideshow captured the essence of a man who lived fully and inspired many,” said MVSC volunteer John Lullo. “The old ranch house provided the perfect backdrop for this final farewell to Paul Bianco.”
