Beckwourth Peak Fire launches newsletter

The Board of Directors of the Beckwourth Peak Fire Protection District announces that it has launched a newsletter mailed to all property owners in the district. The newsletter, which is also available online, contains background information about the new fire district, established by the voters in November, 2023.

The fire district, which began operations July 1, 2024, includes residents of the Eastern Plumas Rural Fire Protection District, annexed to the Beckwourth Peak Fire District in the fall of 2024.

The newsletter highlights how the district is funded, including an explanation of the fire parcel tax, which now applies to the Eastern Plumas Rural FPD. There are specific exceptions to the parcel tax charges, which property owners can apply for.

Since the fire district became operational, the board approved fulltime firefighter staffing at the Portola South Fire Station. This action, funded by the parcel tax, has resulted in an improvement in response times to emergencies. Lives have been saved and property damage reduced because of 24-hour firefighters on duty, said Fire Chief Jack Rosevear.

The Fire District celebrated its first birthday July 1, 2025. Firefighters responded to 706 calls for service over the past 12 months, at all times of day and night and under all weather conditions. For questions or more information contact Rosevear at 530-816-0525.
