The LDS Church Portola Ward, Portola Firewise Community and Plumas Fire Safe Council jointly announce a wildfire preparedness fair and community BBQ planned for Aug. 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Portola LDS churchyard.
Fire preparedness information and guidance will be available through Grab n’ Go binders, 72-hour kits, family emergency plans, two-way communications, first aide, pet and livestock evacuation and property preparation and maintenance.
Exhibitors include the Lassen-Modoc Unit of Calfire, the U.S. Forest Service, Plumas Office of Emergency Services and Beckwourth Peak Fire Protection District. Larry Trotter will offer radio training, and Barbara Montandon will offer pet and livestock evacuation information. Fire engines will be on display for the kids.
