The Plumas County Library recently announced the current schedule for its bookmobile. Because the route varies depending on special events and one-time stops, staff suggest calling 530-283-6310 or checking online before visiting to confirm the date and time the bookmobile will be at a specific location.

The bookmobile provides activities and free Project Read books to kids and families at community events, such as the 37th annual Street Rod Extravaganza. That event is set for Sept. 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chester Community Park at Meadowbrook Loop and Willow Street. The bookmobile will also be at Railroad Days in Portola on Sept. 27.
Bookmobile staff may need to cancel stops or leave early due to driving and weather conditions, staff availability or vehicle issues. The bookmobile is closed on all national and county holidays. Patrons can go to the county’s website and scroll to the bottom for the full holiday list, as well as checking the News & Events tab for any emergency closures.
Arranging a bookmobile visit
Plumas County organizations and agencies may request the bookmobile to stop at their location to provide library services on the bookmobile’s regular route, or on a one-time basis for a community event. For events, the bookmobile can bring activities like crafts and coloring pages, along with free children’s books to give away as part of the library’s ongoing Project Read service.
Those interested can fill out the appropriate form for either a one-time event or recurring stop. The library points out that the established bookmobile schedule is reassessed and modified in January, May and October. Not all requested stops will be added. The schedule is subject to safety limitations, staff availability, established stops and outreach events, assumed demographics or usage, location variance, available vehicle parking, funding, evaluation of current stops and more.
More information about the bookmobile is also available by calling 530-764-8196 or emailing [email protected].
