PAWS in desperate need of cat-loving volunteers

Plumas Animal Welfare Society in Quincy reports that volunteers are desperately needed to help the cat rescue care for felines in its care and prepare them for adoption.

Organizers say a decline in volunteering is taking a toll on local organizations, PAWS included. “PAWS director Louise Delaney is holding the rescue together by working incredibly long hours and is asking for help,” said volunteer Mary Newhouse. While the organization has a handful of volunteers that are also working long hours and trying to cover when someone needs time off for a family event, work or emergency, additional people are needed.

A variety of volunteer roles is available, from running the day-to-day operations at the rescue, dubbed “the cathouse,” to taking cats to their veterinary appointments or just coming in and socializing the cats. “Please consider volunteering for the kitties,” said Newhouse. “Even if it is one specific thing that you can do or only one day a week. Anything helps!”

Those interested can call PAWS at 530-283-5433 or visit the cathouse at 2453 E. Main St. in Quincy.

Donations are also appreciated. PAWS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and all donations are tax-deductible. Organizers point out that all donations go directly to the kitties as all staff members are volunteers. Donations can be made by mail to PAWS, P.O. Box 125, Quincy, CA 95971 or by visiting in person Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
