September is ‘exceptional’ for Plumas-grown produce

The Lost Sierra Food Project reports that September is an exceptional time for Plumas-grown produce. The nonprofit’s farm, Rugged Roots Farm in Quincy, is currently producing

  • cherry tomatoes and slicers
  • three types of cucumbers, including small pickling cucumbers
  • bulk basil bags
  • cabbages
  • carrots
  • radishes
  • garlic
  • tomatillos
  • four types of peppers, including shishitos

Staffers point out that the selection includes everything needed to make salsa, ratatouille, kimchi and more.

Shoppers can purchase produce at the farm’s Tuesday night farm stand and from the honor system fridge. In addition, Lost Sierra Food Project sells produce at the Quincy Farmers Market, held the second Wednesday of the month at Rich Bar Taproom. The next market is set for this afternoon, 4 to 7 p.m.
