Fire safe council welcomes Marty Walters as coordinator

The Plumas County Fire Safe Council reports that as summer gives way to fall, its team is moving full speed ahead on the projects that keep Plumas County aware and more prepared. “We’ve got fresh energy, new capacity and a clear focus on the work that matters most — strengthening our landscapes and neighborhoods through proactive prefire strategies,” say staff.

The council announces the addition of County Coordinator Marty Walters, whose scope of work is giving PCFSC new momentum and capacity to lead essential projects across Plumas County.

Walters brings experience in community resilience, property risk management and organizing across public, private and nonprofit partners — and she’s already off and running, reports PCFSC. In her first weeks, Walters

  • Kicked off a new grant proposal
  • Collaborated on the strategic revamp of plumasfiresafe.org
  • Started the early stages of updating the community wildfire protection plan
  • Breathed fresh air back into PCFSC’s Fire Safe Home Visits Program

California has invested $9.5 million to fund county coordinator positions across the state — including the role that supports Walters’ work.

Walters said she is very excited to get the chance to work on homes and neighborhoods in Plumas County to prepare for the next wildfire. PCFSC will be resuming fire safe home visits in September. Those who are on the visit list and waiting for an appointment can expect Walters to be in touch, and she said the council will be releasing scheduling options soon.

About Marty Walters

Marty Walters has lived in Quincy since 2004. She has spent many years making commercial properties safer and more environmentally friendly, working with some of the largest banks and real estate companies in the world.

“I’m passionate about strategizing with property owners to spend their maintenance and renovation budget for the biggest impact, combining home hardening with energy and water efficiency for safe and resilient structures,” she said. “I know a lot about managing when money is tight, help is scarce and time is flying by.”

Walters is also a coordinator for Plumas County’s Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster group, which plans and coordinates with all the volunteers and nonprofits that come together to support the community during disasters. She also plays violin at local events.
