Gallery of the Woods offers fusion of art and nature

The Feather River College Foundation reports that it is partnering with Plumas Arts to produce Gallery of the Woods, an “unforgettable fusion of art, nature and community spirit.” Organizers invite the community to experience the Plumas through the artists’ lens Saturday, Oct. 11, from noon to 6 p.m. at the University of California, Berkeley, Forestry Camp in Meadow Valley.

Visitors are invited to wander an immersive hiking path where each installation — whether visual, auditory or performance-based — responds to its forest surroundings with subtle wonder, say organizers. “From sculptures, paintings, music and dances that seem to sprout from moss-covered logs to forest ecology and the sacred Maidu relationship to the land, the woods will transform into a living, breathing gallery.”

Highlights include

  • Site-specific art installations and performances: A hiking trail will include artwork designed to harmonize with natural textures, light and terrain to “surprise and enchant” viewers.
  • Live music and ambient soundscapes: Participants can be serenaded by a singing minstrel or by dancers that blur the border between art and the living forest.
  • Silent auction and artist celebration: Visitors can bid on original artworks, handcrafted pieces and local experiences by the featured artists.
  • Dinner and social hour: A barbecue dinner includes steak and chicken chimichurri, grilled vegetables, beans, fries, fresh rolls and dessert. A no-host bar features local wine, beer and complimentary appetizers. Dinner tickets are sold separately from art-hike passes.

Organizers suggest wearing comfortable shoes and layered clothing.

Tickets and more details are available at http://www.galleryofthewoods.com or by contacting Lisa Kelly at [email protected] or Christopher Rouse at [email protected].
