Golden Eagles fall to De Anza 35-29 on the road

Feather River College Athletics reports that the 2-0 Golden Eagles football team traveled to De Anza College on Sept. 13 to face the 2-0 Mountain Lions. FRC ended up falling to De Anza 35-29.

Feather River College struck first with an Isaac Matthews 58-yard touchdown reception from Kayden Leaf on the opening drive of the game. The hard-fought back-and-forth contest remained tight the entire game, which stood at 21-20 at the half. However, with just seven minutes left in the contest, De Anza scored the go-ahead touchdown to take a 35-29 lead and victory, moving to 3-0 on the season.

Leaf led the Golden Eagles with 73 yards rushing and one touchdown, while throwing for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomores Matthews and Kyle Valdez each finished the day with one reception for a touchdown. Sophomore Marco Casci had an outstanding afternoon on defense with six solo tackles out of 10 total and 1.5 sacks. Sophomore Aiden Flores was dominant on the interior line, recorded 2.5 sacks with 10 total tackles.

The 2-1 Golden Eagles will play next at home versus Hartnell College tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 20. Game time is 1 p.m.
