The Feather River College Upward Bound program announces that all services in local schools will resume in October after a pause in September due to a nationwide funding “hiccup.”
The U.S. Department of Education issued a no-cost extension to all TRIO Upward Bound and Talent Search programs across the nation instead of issuing grant award notifications at the end of August, reported FRC Upward Bound. This forced the Upward Bound college preparation program hosted by FRC to pause serving students and families, including halting all weekly meetings at local high schools and planned regional college tour field trips.
The Talent Search program had enough funds left over from the previous year to continue to provide services for the month of September.
Fortunately, said organizers, both the Upward Bound and Talent Search programs received their 2025-2026 grant award notifications from the U.S. Department of Education in September. FRC was able to retain all TRIO staff during this hiccup in funding and staff will resume their respective TRIO roles this month.
More information about TRIO programs, including how these programs support local students and how students can participate, is available at www.frc.edu/studentservices/trio-programs.
