Pumpkin Patch Express rolls into Portola

The Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola invites the community to climb aboard its annual Pumpkin Patch Express. The special family-friendly afternoon and evening events will be held the weekends of Oct. 18 and 19, and 25 and 26.

On all four days the museum will open at 10 a.m. Trains depart hourly between 1 and 5 p.m. On Saturday nights, the museum will once again run the popular Super Spooky Night Trains. These depart starting at 7 p.m. and run until 8:30.

The Halloween-decorated Pumpkin Patch Express train will depart from the museum’s diesel shop, headed for the pumpkin patch where visitors can pick up and purchase pumpkins. Organizers point out that riders might even catch a glimpse of Sasquatch.

Back at the diesel shop, visitors can explore the museum, enjoy the decorations and shop for railroad-themed merchandise. Pumpkin Patch Express admission is $15 per car or $10 with a donation of three cans of food for the Eastern Plumas Community Assistance Network food bank.

Feather River Rail Society members get free admission with their membership card. More information is available online or by calling 530-832-4131.
