Regional college fair welcomes local students, families

Community Foundation of the North State announces that College Quest, a college information night, will take place Monday, Oct. 13, at Shasta College in Redding from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. Organizers point out that this free community event is open to everyone and is designed so that North State students and their families can explore post high school education and career opportunities.

“We invite students and their families in Plumas County to make the trip down into Redding and ‘visit’ a large variety of educational institutions,” say organizers. “This opportunity gives students the ability to experience different educational prospects firsthand, without traveling directly to each campus!”

Representatives from colleges and universities from across the country — including University of California, San Diego; University of Oregon; California State University, Chico; University of Nevada, Reno; Sonoma State University; etc. — will be on site to showcase the unique features of their institutions. At least five regional community colleges will be part of the event. Trade and technical schools will be in attendance, as will recruiters from multiple military branches. Additionally, local high school and community representatives will be on hand to assist families in planning for their education experiences after high school, including help finding scholarships.

Organizers say school representatives will help families get their questions answered and gain knowledge about different career pathways, college entrance requirements, financial aid and more.

College & Career Options provides free programs and services to strengthen the collegegoing culture in the North State by increasing opportunities for students to pursue postsecondary education and ensuring that all students and their families can make informed decisions about their education and their future.
