No. 1 Golden Eagles volleyball opens conference play

Feather River College Athletics announces that the FRC Golden Eagles are opening Golden Valley Conference play today, Friday, Oct. 10, at Butte College, with a game time of 6 p.m. The Golden Eagles volleyball team is currently ranked No. 1 in the state, with a 23-1 overall record following nonconference play.

The reigning California Community College Athletic Association state champions finished nonconference play with a record that includes straight set victories over No. 2 San Diego Mesa and No. 3 San Joaquin Delta. Sophomore setter Teya Gibbs was honored as an all-tourney selection at the NorCal/SoCal Showcase in Bakersfield earlier this season.

When asked about what makes this year’s squad special, Gibbs said, “Our chemistry off the court makes it easier for us to play on the court. I think this team has a really strong bond.” Sophomore libero Peyton Estes shared similar thoughts, commenting that the team bond this season is even stronger than last season.

Golden Eagles volleyball team members cite chemistry between players as a factor in their success.

Estes, who was recently named all-tourney selection at the San Joaquin Delta Classic, said she believes that the freshman experience she and the other sophomores experienced the previous season has greatly shaped the 2025 squad and is a direct contribution to the team’s success. “We enjoyed that feeling from last season and want to experience it again. It is also important to us that the freshmen this season have the same experience,” commented Gibbs.

When asked which tournament each regular season is her favorite, Estes answered, “Delta has been my favorite tournament both seasons. I love the team bonding on those trips, and it is excellent competition. I enjoy that we play for a championship and the rivalry with Delta is also a reason I enjoy the tourney.”

When asked what makes this team special, Gibbs said, “It is the culture. FRC has a family atmosphere, and we love competing for championships.”

The Golden Eagles volleyball team expects success and is driven to achieve success, said FRC Athletics. FRC has achieved four volleyball — indoor and beach — state titles in four years: 2019, 2022, spring 2024 and fall 2024. FRC’s first home volleyball game is set for Oct. 22 versus Lassen Community College. Game time is 6 p.m.
