Golden Eagles men’s basketball begins play tomorrow

Feather River College Athletics announces that the FRC men’s basketball team is entering an exciting new season, powered by a roster rich in talent, experience and potential. After two seasons of steady improvement, including an impressive jump from just four wins two years ago to 18 wins last year, the team is eager to reach new heights this season, says FRC.

At the heart of this momentum are the athletes who have been shaping the team’s success. Damonte Duhart, a 6 foot, 5 inch sophomore forward, returns for his second season after averaging a double-double as a freshman and earning first-team all-conference honors. Meanwhile, sharpshooter Kaeden Castillero, a 5 foot, 10 inch sophomore, also returns after receiving all-conference recognition.

The team isn’t just experienced — it’s also bolstered by an outstanding recruiting class. Freshmen stars include 6 foot, 7 inch Jaden Armes; 6 foot, 6 inch Michael Gebremeskel; and 6 foot, 5 inch Eskil Grimsmo; among others. Newcomers like 6 foot, 7 inch Arinze Onyeguli, a redshirt, and 6 foot, 4 inch Kam Ricks bring added versatility and athleticism.

Coaches say this year’s roster is full of players who made significant contributions early in their careers. Jerel Victor, a 6 foot, 1 inch scorer, along with Aaron Blake, also 6 feet, 1 inch; Hayden Brawley, 6 feet; and Louis Griffin, 6 feet, 3 inches — all in their third year — bring a wealth of experience. Additionally, Nick Fletcher, 6 feet, 4 inches; Lance Haworth, 6 feet, 3 inches; and Armon Baker, 6 feet, 3 inches, are returning after impactful freshman seasons, ready to take on even bigger roles.

Head coach Derek Jensen notes the depth of talent on the roster: “This team does not lack talent, length or athleticism. On paper, we’re loaded with physical tools, leadership and experience. While losing Derrick Monroe was a challenge, I believe our young men are ready to step up and lead us to even greater success.”

Jensen is entering his third season with the Golden Eagles. Last season FRC won 18 contests, including the first round of the California Community College Athletic Association regional playoffs.

The Golden Eagles play Saturday, Nov. 1, at Sacramento City College versus Antelope Valley. Game time is 3 p.m.
