FRC women’s basketball returns after yearlong hiatus

Feather River College Athletics announces that the Golden Eagles women’s basketball team has returned after a one-year hiatus. FRC opened the season in Stockton as a part of the San Joaquin Delta College tournament. After a tough Friday evening loss, the Golden Eagles rallied to a thrilling 65-60 win over College of San Mateo on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Sataijia Warren led all scorers with 18 points as well as reining in 10 rebounds. FRC trailed early but rallied to even the score to 38-38 at the half. The Golden Eagles took control of the contest in the third quarter and led by as many as 14 points midway through the fourth.

Keziah Maldonado-Lemus directed the offense with 11 assists, scoring 14 points and grabbing eight boards. Chevelle Roque ignited the third-quarter run with a crucial three-point field goal, and the Golden Eagles maintained the lead for the remainder of the contest.

This is the first victory for head coach Ashley Chavira, as she begins her tenure at Feather River College. The Golden Eagles play next tomorrow, Nov. 7, at Porterville College. Game time is 5 p.m.
