Plumas County Democrats reports that four of the group’s members spent time cleaning up the landscaping around the county library in Quincy last month.
“Plumas County Democrats have worked on sprucing up the grounds at the Quincy library for several years,” said Faith Strailey, chair of the local group. “Our members support volunteerism as a way to help our community and the public facilities that serve us.”
Strailey added that the Democrats also adopted a 3-mile stretch of Highway 70 and have been picking up litter from Rattlesnake Road to Mt. Tomba for many years, again as a way to serve their communities.
Davney Gasser, one member of the library cleanup crew, is currently serving as vice president of Quincy Friends of the Plumas County Library, a local group that conducts semiannual used book sales to help with library funding. She noted that the Democrats who volunteer to help with the library’s garden do so under the direction of a volunteer arborist who herself helps maintain the grounds.
Said Gasser, “We know how important it is to support our local institutions. The library is always a safe and welcoming place for all. Let’s keep it looking beautiful.”
Volunteer Julie Hochrein added, “Free public education and libraries are the cornerstone of democracy. We want to help make our library an inviting and beautiful place to visit.”
