That’s the Way That the World Goes ’Round: The Music of John Prine

Plumas Community Radio announces that, on Friday and Saturday nights, Nov. 14 and 15, Plumas Arts and KQNY invite everyone to an evening of the music of John Prine. Organizers say Quincy’s Town Hall Theatre will be filled with electric and acoustic interpretations of over 30 songs by the beloved artist, performed by 21 Plumas County musicians. Will Lombardi will be the emcee for the evening.

The event is a fundraiser for Plumas Arts and Plumas Community Radio, and is the latest in a series of similar events. “It’s been a while, like 13 years, since we’ve done one of these things!” said Tommy Miles, organizer of the event. Past shows have featured the music of Neil Young, Crosby Stills & Nash, and Bob Dylan, as well as the Soul Jukebox, which covered Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and many other artists, all presented by homegrown Plumas County talent.

“It’s a great chance for folks to come out and see their local musicians and hear some great music, all while helping out two nonprofits that promote music in our area. Not only that, the musicians get to make new connections with like-minded performers,” said Miles.

John Prine was one of the most influential songwriters of his generation. His 1971 eponymous debut album is considered by critics to be one of the greatest of all time. Over almost five decades, he released 19 studio albums containing about 170 original songs ranging from sweet, touching ballads to irreverent social satire. After surviving cancer twice, Prine died in 2020 due to complications of COVID.

Tickets are $25 and are available online at plumasarts.org, by calling 530-283-3402 or at the Plumas Arts Gallery at 525 Main St. in Quincy.
