A week honoring board clerk Allen Hiskey

As clerk of the Plumas County Board of Supervisors, Allen Hiskey posts meeting agendas. He takes board meeting minutes and publishes them, handles public notices and makes official board of supervisors documents available to the public.

This week, designated as California Clerk of the Board of Supervisors Week, the supervisors are honoring Hiskey from Nov. 17 through Nov. 21.

They recognized him by unanimously approving an official proclamation Nov. 4 for his high level of services and the many legally mandated functions he performs that protect and preserve the rights of the citizens to an open and accessible government.

Before the vote, Supervisor Jeff Engel raised a question: “Just five days? It should be more.”

Hiskey has lived in Plumas County since 1999, drawn to the area by a family connection. He worked at the Greenville Rancheria of Maidu Indians as human resources director. He also served for seven years in the Quincy area as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

The supervisors appointed Hiskey as clerk of the board Oct. 23, 2023. It puts him front and center at board meetings, calling the roll and keeping time during public comments. He loves it, Hiskey told The Plumas Sun.

“It’s an outstanding job,” he said, which allows him to learn about all aspects of county government.

Board clerks are “a time-honored and vital part of local government” whose work is “revered,” the supervisors said in their proclamation. Like board clerks throughout California, Hiskey is committed to maintaining neutrality and impartiality in the proceedings of government.
