Sen. Dahle marks Native American Heritage Month

The Office of Sen. Megan Dahle points out that each November‚ California marks Native American Heritage Month to remember both “the history and the ongoing contributions of those whose ancestors first called this great state home.”

California has 109 federally recognized tribes‚ and 17 of those are based in the 1st Senate District, from the Karuk Tribe of California in Siskiyou County to the Cachil DeHe Band of Wintun Indians in Colusa. The district also includes tribes that do not currently have federal recognition but work to maintain their culture and traditions and build vibrant futures‚ including the Shasta Tribe‚ the Wintu Tribe of Northern California‚ the Mountain Maidu‚ and the Nisenan in Nevada County.

“I am proud to represent and work with these important communities‚ whose enduring presence on the land helps make the North State the special place it is,” said Dahle.
