Tree fundraiser sends kids to Scout Summer Camp

Scouts BSA Troop 151 announces that its upcoming holiday tree sale will raise funds to send kids to Scout Summer Camp. Organizers report that every year the local Quincy Troop 151 harvests and sells trees to the public to subsidize the costs of summer camp.

This year, the troop will be selling trees at the Grocery Outlet parking lot in East Quincy on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Trees cost $12 per foot, and the troop can accept cash or credit cards.

Folks can also preorder trees. Organizers encourage preordering to ensure a tree is set aside for pickup on Saturday. The troop requests a donation of $25 to hold a tree. Organizers also offer delivery of trees to the purchasers’ home for an additional $100 donation.

Scout Summer Camp

Last year Troop 151 sent eight local Quincy youth to Summer Camp Wolfeboro. This year, organizers hope to send 10 local youth to the summer camp. The average cost to send a single child to summer camp is about $850. Every tree sale directly supports the cost of summer camp for local Quincy families, said organizers.

“Every Scout in our troop says the best part of Scouting is summer camp,” said Scoutmaster Jonathan Pangburn. At summer camp, the kids stay overnight for one week. Local adult parents attend as chaperones. Intermixed with kids from all over the West Coast, participants learn life skills, social skills and leadership skills, said Pangburn.
