Plumas-Sierra County 4-H reports that the Livestock 101 event held last month was a huge success. Over 125 4-H and National FFA Organization members, leaders and parents from Plumas and Sierra counties were treated to a fun, educational and informative day at Loyalton High School, said organizers.

- Showing
- Ethics
The event was a collaboration between Echo 4-H, Sierra Valley 4-H and Treasure Mountain 4-H and coordinated by Jane Roberti. Presenters are “incredibly involved” in the production industry, said Roberti. They included
- Mimi Burchett, Chico: sheep breeder, producer, volunteer
- Rhiannon Carlson, Orland: Farmers Warehouse/Showtime Feeds representative, cattle breeder
- Maddi Johnson, Standish: beef breeder, producer, exhibitor, 4-H leader
- Dr. Tanya Morgan, Chilcoot: Sierra Valley Large Animal Veterinary Services
- Wesley Neer, Auburn: Neer’s Custom Cut & Wrap owner/operator, auctioneer
- Helen Repka, Yuba City: goat breeder, producer, exhibitor
- Blaine Wolf, Chico: swine breeder, producer, California State University, Chico, Swine Operation participant






Winners
The day ended with a knowledge bowl activity and reasons for what students learned throughout the day and within their projects. Winners were as follows:
Junior division, ages 9 and 10

- Easton Hammerich, medalist from Indian Valley 4-H
Intermediate division, ages 11 to 13

Senior division, ages 14 to 18

The carcass contest results were announced from the 2025 Plumas-Sierra County Fair. Champions included

- Addison Marsh, Echo 4-H, market goat
- Ronnie McRae, American Valley 4-H, sheep
- Tula Selby, American Valley 4-H, swine
Reserve champions included
- Baileigh Phebus, Loyalton FFA, beef
- Shane Marsh, Echo 4-H, goat
- Junior Palmer, American Valley 4-H, sheep
- Stella White, Quincy FFA, swine
Each attendee received a door prize which consisted of livestock raising tools and show products donated by local families and businesses. Roberti thanked the event’s sponsors, without whom “the event could not have happened at the caliber it did.” She also offered a special thanks to Loyalton FFA for the facilities, and to Mr. Vang for helping Josh Loubet cook and serve lunch with the assistance of parents and FFA members.
