Quincy Rotary, Scouts launch inaugural tree auction

The Rotary Club of Quincy announces that, in partnership with Scout Troop 151, the group is is kicking off a brand-new holiday tradition aimed at sending local youth to summer camp and to Rotary leadership programs. In the Host a Tree! fundraiser, local businesses showcase decorated trees and community members are invited to bid to win their favorites.

“The event blends small-town holiday charm with a creative boost for local shops,” said organizers. The fundraiser is currently underway.

After receiving their tree, participating businesses added festive flair with décor, ornaments and optional extras such as gift certificates or themed baskets to help drive auction bids. For example, the tree at The Hub was decorated by Feather River College and includes game tickets, FRC swag and holiday ornaments. The Waste Management tree’s theme is “family game night,” with hot cocoa packets, games and treats.

“I love being part of a community where we can come together, get involved and support fundraisers that truly embrace the holiday spirit,” said Lisa Lester, WM district manager. “As a proud member of Rotary and an employee of Waste Management, it’s an honor to help make a positive difference — especially during this special time of year.”

Throughout the week — including during Sparkle — shoppers can place silent-auction bids on each decorated tree. Once bidding closes, winners will be contacted and can pick up their tree. For a small fee, trees can also be delivered by Rotary volunteers.

Participating businesses include

  • The Coffee House
  • Feather River College, at The Hub
  • Grandma Jane’s
  • Plumas Bank
  • Plumas District Hospital
  • Plumas Physical Therapy
  • Quincy Provisions
  • Rhythm & Grace Dance Studio
  • Rich Bar
  • T’s To Go
  • Waste Management, at The Hub

“This is a fun way for businesses to get involved in something that directly benefits kids in our community,” said co-organizer Lisa Kelly of Quincy Rotary. “And at the same time, we’re helping bring people through the doors of our local shops during the holiday season.”

The auction is held in addition to tomorrow’s Troop 151 tree sale.
