Feather River College reports that the STEM Club visited the fifth grade class at Plumas Charter School during the fall. FRC students led a series of science, technology, engineering and math activities for Cindy Thackeray’s students and taught concepts related to energy.
Students spent several weeks planning and testing their activities prior to leading them, and the lessons were a great success, report club leaders. The reviews from the fifth graders were overwhelmingly positive, and the student-leaders said they are excited to reach out to other classes to do it all again in the spring.

Students who led activities at Plumas Charter School were Sam Kuld, Kylie Low, Evan Steen, Gianna Pass, Ava Ward and Mason Saenz.
Also last fall, Anna Thompson and Kurt Smart accompanied a group of STEM students to the American Chemical Society Western Regional Meeting in San Jose. Students got to see presentations on cutting-edge science covering a wide range of fields.
Organizers said participants were also able to participate in student-focused workshops and meet with representatives from biotech companies and colleges to discuss college and career pathways and opportunities. The students who attended the conference were Sam Kuld, Kylie Low, Olivia Kohler and Elyssa Glib.
