The Westwood Area Chamber of Commerce invites the community head over the hill to Westwood for one of the tastiest traditions in Lassen County as the chamber hosts its 16th annual Chowder Cook-Off on Saturday, Jan. 17.
Organizers promise that this popular winter event offers fun for the entire family and serves as the perfect way to warm up during the chilly month of January.
Local chefs and home cooks will be battling it out for bragging rights and cash prizes for the best chowder. “Whether you prefer a creamy clam chowder, a corn chowder or a unique signature recipe, this is the place to be to sample the best the area has to offer,” said the chamber.
The cook-off takes place at the Westwood Visitors Center at Third and Ash streets. The tasting and festivities kick off at noon and will run until 3 p.m. — or until the chowder is gone.
Tasting kits are sold for $8, allowing attendees to sample the entries and help decide the winners. Feather River Revival will play live music throughout the afternoon.
The entry fee for cooking teams is $25, and winners will receive cash prizes.
Those interested in entering the competition or who would like more information about the event can contact the Westwood Area Chamber of Commerce by calling 530-256-2456. Vendor forms and entry information are available online.
