Cris Jacobs supports new album with festival performances

In support of his recently released album “One Of These Days” (Soundly Music), artist Cris Jacobs will be performing at High Sierra Music Festival in Quincy. The festival runs July 4 through 7, and Jacobs will play July 5 and 6.

“One Of These Days” is the first album in five years from the celebrated singer, songwriter and guitarist. The Baltimore native penned the 11 new tracks that brim with storytelling, observations and intimate lyrics, all rooted in a foundation of folk, blues, gospel and bluegrass with a contemporary tone. The track “Work Song (I Can Still Sing),” featuring Lindsay Lou on backing vocals, is available to listen to here.

“One Of These Days” garnered high critical praise following its April 26 release on Soundly Music, including a feature in Rolling Stone, which called the work “a blend of bluegrass, indie-folk and blues sensibilities anchoring Jacobs’ soaring, fiery voice, a vocal tone akin to that of Scott Avett or Dan Auerbach.” Glide Magazine called it “the acclaimed singer-songwriter’s most vital and intimate release to date,” while Roughstock said it is “easily one of roots music’s finest releases of 2024 … a truly stunning album.”

To contribute to the recording of “One Of These Days,” Jacobs enlisted a cavalcade of artists/friends starting with Jerry Douglas, who produced the album and added some playing. The Infamous Stringdusters (Travis Book, Andy Falco, Jeremy Garrett, Andy Hall and Chris Pandolfi) serve as the house band with special guests that include Lindsay Lou, Lee Ann Womack, Billy Strings, Sam Bush and The McCrary Sisters. All tracks were recorded live, and that energy can be felt throughout the recording.

Jacobs recently released a new video for his song “Poor Davey.” The video features in-studio footage of the recording with special guests Billy Strings, The Infamous Stringdusters and producer Jerry Douglas. Performers bring a high-energy style to the song’s harrowing story. Jacobs will also be making his Grand Ole Opry debut April 27.
