We are sad to announce the passing of Clara Asplund Burwell Chapman of Weaverville, Oroville, Quincy, and Lincoln, California. Clara was born on July 19, 1929, and passed away at the age of 94 on Dec. 9, 2023. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Frank Chapman and her sister Phyllis Mabry (Brooks). Clara, unfortunately, was also preceded in death by her loving daughter Suzanne Wood (survived by spouse Jim Taylor) of Weaverville, California, who passed away on Nov. 16, 2023.
Clara filled her life enjoying family and friends, appreciating the Trinity Alps, Bucks Lake, Lake Almanor, Spanish Creek, nature, reading, and sports from horses to baseball.
She is survived by her daughter Denise Leavy; son Raymond (Lisha) Burwell; nephew Bruce (Angela) Mabry; niece Sharon (Sean) Burris; Chapman children George (Cherie) Chapman, Melanie (Joe) Blair, Michael Chapman, Patrick Chapman, Butch (Debra) Chapman, Tammy (Joe) Taylor, Polly (Scott) Brady and John Chapman; grandchildren Lisa (Jason) Noonan and Jason Nichols; great-grandchildren Caden and Rylee Noonan, Rafaela and Camila Nichols; 13 Chapman grandchildren; 18 Chapman great-grandchildren.
Clara was well-loved. We could always count on her to return our love with kindness, humor, wisdom, and sarcasm. Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend are truly missed. We will always carry her wit and loving memory in our hearts.
For those she loved and touched, a celebration of her life will be held in the spring of 2024. The time and place will be announced at a later date.
