Nick Collin appointed county facilities director

While still living in Nevada, Nick Collin and his wife were out for a drive through Plumas County. “Let’s move here,” his wife said.

They did, settling in Graeagle. Over the last seven years in Plumas County, Collin’s experience in both the private sector and government agencies positioned him for his new job as director of Plumas County Facility Services and Airports.

“I want to make Plumas County buildings and grounds safe and attractive for all of us to use and enjoy,” he said.

Collin was born in Sacramento and graduated from high school in Shingle Springs, in El Dorado County. His career included working in the construction and motorcycle businesses. In Nevada, he worked for the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the Nevada Office of the Military, a branch of the Nevada Department of Veterans Services.

In November 2023, Collin went to work for the Plumas County Road Department, where the expertise he acquired during his years in a variety of jobs was useful and appreciated. His supervisors noticed his strong set of skills and his common sense. He was invited to apply for the position of facilities director, which was vacant.

In May, Collin was appointed director of Plumas County Facility Services and Airports. He will oversee management of approximately 47 county-owned structures in four communities throughout the county. Among them are various office buildings, parks, airports and halls.

“Nick is a take-care-of-business person,” said Greg Hagwood, chairman of the Plumas County Board of Supervisors. “He has an eye for detail and is the most dedicated public servant you could find.”

Collin is in charge of monitoring aviation fuel sales, managing energy and leases, maintaining county-owned facilities and rental units, managing pool car services and fleets, and removing snow and ice.

His goal, he said, is to work cooperatively with his department and others throughout Plumas County on improving buildings and grounds. “I want all of us together, working as a team, to be proud of our county,” Collin told The Plumas Sun.
