FRC baseball tied for first, wins seventh straight

Working quickly and efficiently, Feather River College raced past Siskiyous 6-0 on April 15 at the Eagles Nest. The win marked the team’s seventh consecutive victory.

FRC reported that the nine-inning contest took just under two hours to complete, rapidly moving the Golden Eagles to 17-4 in the Golden Valley Conference and to 28-7 overall. Siskiyous dropped to 12-21 on the season and to 5-16 in conference play.

FRC is now tied for first with Butte College (17-4), with Lassen just a game back at 15-4.

Feather River’s pitching was impressive, with four hurlers combining to hold Siskiyous to just four hits and obviously no runs. Trey Smith started the contest and earned the win (5-1), tossing 5.1 innings and allowing only three hits. He fanned three and did not walk a batter.

In fact, Golden Eagle pitching did not issue a free pass all day. Ian Hoslett followed Smith with 1.2 innings of work, giving up a hit and fanning three. Weston Russell threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout and Will Page-Allen did the same with two Ks.

Offensively, FRC got on the board in the first inning on Jared Stevenson‘s RBI single, and Quinten Terrell provided the same in the fourth. The Golden Eagles then scored four times in the sixth inning, using an RBI-one base hit from Andrew Lehmann and a two-run single off the bat of Anthony Cepeda

The final two weeks of the regular season are fast approaching. FRC hosts the College of the Redwoods April 19 at 5 p.m. and April 20 at 1 p.m., followed by a home-and-home series with Butte on April 25 and 26.
